Your JSON documents
JSON entered into the editor is processed inside your browser. Document contents are not sent to our application servers, stored in an account, placed in a URL, or included in analytics events.
Local preferences
We use browser local storage for interface preferences such as light or dark theme and your product-analytics choice. If you explicitly choose Save locally in the editor, that JSON document is also stored only in this browser until you clear it. It is not uploaded or attached to an account.
Browser extension
The optional browser extension formats raw JSON responses locally. Because those responses can appear on any origin, Chromium describes its installation access as all sites. The content script exits unless the browser identifies the response as JSON or the page contains a single raw JSON preformatted block. The document is sent only between the extension's content script and service worker, never to Best JSON Formatter or an analytics provider. Opening the web workspace does not transfer the document.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
The extension accesses website content only to recognize and format the raw JSON response shown in the current tab. The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Website content is not collected, retained, shared, sold, used for advertising, or made available for humans to read.
Hosting and analytics
The site is hosted by Vercel and uses Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to understand aggregate page use and real-world performance. Analytics URLs are reduced to their path before transmission, so query strings and fragments are excluded. Hosting infrastructure necessarily receives standard request information such as IP address, user agent, requested path, and time of access. Vercel handles this information under its own privacy terms.
We use PostHog in its EU region for anonymous product analytics. We record bounded facts such as which tool or document action was used, whether an operation succeeded, its duration, a broad document-size range, and broad browser or device context. PostHog is configured in cookieless mode with person profiles, autocapture, session replay, surveys, exception capture, and feature flags disabled.
We do not send JSON contents, JSONPath queries, validation or repair text, filenames, imported URLs, clipboard contents, locally saved drafts, or URL query strings to either analytics provider. Analytics events use a strict allowlist and document sizes are grouped into ranges.
The control above applies to PostHog product analytics on this browser. Vercel continues to provide anonymous aggregate page and performance measurement. Browser privacy tools can also block analytics requests.
Advertising
The site does not currently load advertising. If advertising is introduced, this policy will be updated before activation and eligible visitors will receive the required consent controls. Advertising providers may use cookies, local storage, web beacons, IP addresses, or similar technologies to serve and measure ads.
